TOPIC: Inchstones over Milestones: Redefining Progress in Autism Parenting
“Inchstones” introduces a novel concept, contrasting with the familiar “milestones” to highlight the importance of recognizing and valuing smaller, yet significant, developmental achievements of neurodivergent children. In celebrating the smaller wins of a neurodivergent child, your parenting becomes more present to their progress.
Participants will leave the session able to:
Start to process their child’s diagnosis from a place of what their child CAN do vs what they are not doing.
Reasses the presence to small growth and real change and release of the fear of failure and shame as a parent.
Recognize the every day, small growth accomplishments with and of their child as WINS.
Celebrate who their children are vs who you expected them to be.
Design an everyday life with removal of parental shame from your inner critic.
Reviews for Sarah
“Sarah hosted a session around raising children with autism in partnership with our Families Employee Resource group and she was incredible! Her vulnerability, optimism, energy and honesty in sharing her story helped our entire family’s community stop and celebrate the ‘inchstones’! The audience was so engaged and shared messages of love, tears, and she helped to create an environment where others were comfortable in sharing their stories and building community. Sarah’s mission to help others through sharing her experience truly resonated with our family’s community and are so grateful we had the opportunity to learn from her.”
“I recently had the pleasure of hiring Sarah for a keynote speaking event at LoveShackFancy, and I must say that it was an incredibly insightful and thought-provoking experience. I was eager to learn alongside my employees about Sarah’s journey as a mom to two children with non-speaking autism and how to create more inclusive environments. Sarah did not disappoint – her presentation was full of beautiful tips on how all individuals can adopt the ‘inchstone mentality’ and how best to support the special needs community from the 1:1 connectivity level. Overall, I’d highly recommend Sarah to anyone looking to learn more about autism, includsion, and what she has learned through her lived experience as Milly & Mack’s mom. Her expertise, passion, and decidation to this important topic shone through in every aspect of her talk and Q&A.”
